Problems with withdrawing

I have a big problems. In battle it's only sometimes i can withdraw? Right now my general is attacked, and i can't withdraw? Some turns before that another of my generals was attacked, but he could withdraw? Why is it only sometimes i can withdraw?

Is "game fixing" needed that badly?

I'm new to Medieval 2 total war, and to these forums as well.

I have a question regarding the many "game fixing" threads in here: Is it really necessary to get all those mods and stuff to be able to enjoy the game to its fullest?

Reading through the forums, it gives the impression that one has to be a very experienced player to simply be able to use the troops (say cavalry) the way it is intended?

Hello!

I am a bit confused about wich game I should buy, Empire or Medieval II?

Because of no experience at all, in any of the Total War games, I am asking you some help, so I can decide wich game, I will buy.
In many website , blogs and forums there is a lot of criticism about Empire compare to Medieval II. Most blog and forums I have visited are very mad about Empire.

Old titles on vista?

I played STW and MTW but my pc wouldnt run RTW or MTW2 I am playing ETW now but since I have vista on my new pc the old games dont work. Is there any plans or ways to get the older titles to work on vista or am i just out of luck. I loved my kensei. Please help me find my kensei.

im a complete noob to this i played Medieval 2 last night for the very first time.

i followed the 2 tutorials which was fine and dandy (just about),
but when i played for real imediately started loosing money and couldnt build anything or recruit any troops after only a short period. Can somebody point me in the right direction so i can at least earn money.

I have tried Scotland, France, and Portugal and I find myself getting bored very quickly. I have been playing Medieval II for like a year now although I stop every few months. I get bored of the campaigns cause I play very slow. How do you guys play the campaign without getting bored and how do you capture settlements fast. Should I play as a new faction? Should I get a mod? (i don't have any mods, but i do have kingdoms which I don't like cause its like 5 faction) Any recommendations...

Random loss in RTW as Carthage

Hi. I recently decided to play RTW as Carthage and found it pretty difficult but was slowly making progress after getting access to better units. The entire time, messages were popping up saying that certain factions were close to beating me and defeat was imminent if I didn't do something soon. I was not aware of even being at war with these factions (like Brittania and Thrace) and just ignored it. Then as I'm finally starting to break into Rome and Spain, a message pops up saying...

I have played the Road to Independence, and I have beaten the big campaign or whatever (the one where you have to capture 50 regions before 1790 i think it was) and I still havent gotten to be anything more than the 12 factions in the normal single player campaign. I was wondering if there were any other factions that I could unlock and how I can unlock them.

So I playe MTW I for many years, just bought MTWII and getting used to all the differences... 1) How do I have more generals to be governors for cities/towns/ect..? Are they only family members that can do this? 2) Does my general have to be in the territory for the city/town/ect to build and recruit? computer requirement overkill

hey guys, im a novice when it comes to computers and system requirements. i have been doing some research and im building a desktop computer fitted for gaming purposes.
