Rome total war and Windows 7 (64bit)

Can't seem to get the game to run for love nor money.

The game installs but each time I select it to play, the title ROME goes up on the screen for about 5 seconds before going away.

I have tried admin as well as troubleshooting in XP with no success.

P.S. I am using Windows 7 home premium (no XP vitual version available)

I have RTW Gold with Barbarian Invasion through Steam. I run Rome on it just fine, and if I start BI, I can run the historical battle, but if I try to run the campaign, it crashes. I can choose a faction, and it starts to load, but when it gets toward the end of the loading bar, it crashes to desktop. I have version 1.6. Windows XP SvcPk 3, 3.5 GB ram, Core2 Duo, NVidia Quadro NVS 140M video card. I don't have any mods or anything.
Any help is greatly appreciated!...

I have RTW BI 1.6 installed on my PC. When I play Rome TW everything works fine, but when I wanna play BI, keyboard is dead except alt+tab and alt+F4.
The thing is that keyboard is working fine in game menu but when I start new campaign or custom battle is stops responding except alt+tab and alt+F4. I've played BI two month ago and it worked fine. Reinstalled the game but problem remains. Again, everything works fine in Rome TW but keyboard is dead in BI, only alt+tab works.

I recently formatted my hard drive and decided to install Windows 7 x64. Rome Total War previously worked on my Vista 32-bit operating system, but with the same hardware (other than hard drives) it no longer works in Windows 7. Is there a known compatibility problem with this, or is it just me? When I run either RTW or BI it shows the small red dialog box loading screen thing, and then it closes completely. I have a creative soundblaster xtremegamer soundccard but rome total war only lets me use the generic "Miles fast 2d positional audio." How do I access the more advanced audio settings?

Crashing

So i got into a pretty deep game and then i stopped playing for a while then my comp crashed and when i restored everything i reinstalled R:TW and now when i play it goes to the last loading screen before the main menu then i get the blue screen of death anyone know why this is?

For me Total war stands for Quality, Great replay value and huge epic massacre with no regrets!, but ofcourse i have my favorites: Rome: Total War, Medieval II: Total War.

I really hope they will not use the land battles from E:TW in Napoleon, i really disliked walking straight into a enemy city without resistance, Wood-forts as citys would be great in Napoleon.

aslong it is a challenge to enter the cities i think everyone will be happy.

yesterday, I reinstalled Rome after a long time and started playing. Now I noticed that there are some patches available so I wanted to ask: Are the savegames I have still playable after I've updated my game from 1.0 to 1.2?

I'm on windows vista and i've played until about 237 BC without any problems, and all of a sudden everytime I click next turn by the time it gets to Thrace's turn my game crashes to the desktop. I've tried loading an earlier saved game but everytime i get to that same point in the game it crashes even if I play things out differently. I uninstalled and reinstalled the game and all the patches (1.3, 1.5) keeping my saved games but the same thing keeps happenening. Someone...
