FWIW, if you don't have tweakui, on XP you can just click "start", then "run", then type "controluserpasswords2", then uncheck the "Users must enter....." box.

by "microbloat backdoor login" u mean delete the new account created by the .net installation?

If so won't that have any adverse effect on the usability of .net for other applications?

So there were ppl saying to delete that other user account created but then saying that that shoudln't be done,then other ppl saying to upgrade to new version and that would fix the login problem, but other ppl also said that doesn't work.

What DOES work to fix the login bug? And I call it a bug since I never asked to change my default login preferences.

The .net framework is a DEVELOPERS tool, it's a bunch of runtime dll's that software developers are supposed to redistribute with their apps if they use them, eg newer runtime libraries for visual c++ (which is why you are reading this thread in the first place).

Seems that CA/Sega have updated the launcher to a newer version of c++, and are too technically inept to understand the concept of 'redistributable dlls' and so just set the damm thing to install the whole...

MTW2 only needs .NET 1.1, it doesn't even need it patched higher really. I patched mine out of choice really, not because I thought it would run MTW2 better, which it doesn't.

Not sure if it has a major effect on M2TW but I installed it when it came out and my ATI Catalyst Control Center program, which runs on .NET, improved significantly from starting up faster to taking up less system reasources.

I would guess that most people having issues with the new patch and .NET do not have all the patches and update for it.

The security update for .NET 1.1 from Microsoft does not solve the signing in problem, you still have to sign in. All it does do, presumably, is make .NET 1.1 more secure.

Never saw one. I simply downloaded the update which took an infinity, then took a wild guess at a file in the folder with a bunch of arrows on it or sumptin and it downloaded itself to my pc, bingo 1.2 in top right corner.

hmm well the leaked version didnt install it to my memory, equally i nor the others had this problem with the leaked one. if its not a .net problem (as i think it is for reasons previously) its a game problem. which imo is a lot worse.

Correct, it launches the installer, but like DirectX, if it finds that the version already exists on your system, it leaves it alone. Or at least it should. Even if it installed over top of itself, it shouldn't matter much.

If you are good boys and girls, then you should have all the updates for .NET already installed. I have 3.0. Anyone who uses the ATI drivers for graphics is already familiar with .NET as that is what the interface is.

I have zero problems with the launcher and I have all the .NET updates installed. 3.0 is fairly quick. 1.1 is the minimum required for the launcher.

Whats up with this .NET 1.1 install ?? I already had 1.1 on my PC and the latest version of Direct X 9c from the Microsoft website but the patch still insists on installing both without my prior permission. I dislike any software that changes the way I interact with my PC without my prior permission. Now when I start up the PC I have to login as myself before I can use the PC whereas before i was just taken straight to the desktop !! Not impressed CA !!
