Posts: 221 11/06/06 08:48:31	Tags : None Am i the only one who has followed this series since the early shogun days???? I know, this isnt Directly related to MTW2, but im interested so please dont move.. From most of the posts i have seen, people only joined when rome came out (as in actually recongnised the series), Yet there are some, few and far between, that have even played MTW on this forum. So i ask, How many have Played shogun, that have been loving Total War since its dawn all those years ago, that didnt pick up the games cause of Rome and actually lost thier total war virginity to Shogun?? P.s. Anyone as nuts as me and still have all 3 on thier comps?? Haha. STW:Warlord Edition MTW: Gold Edition Rome:BI Are all on my computer and i still play em all.

I lost my computer access during those couple years, and by the time I could game again, Shogun and Medieval both were a little old. I got word of Rome and watched it eagerly. I bought it, and both Barbarian Invasion and Alexander. Now of course I have MTWII pre-ordered.

Posts: 215 11/06/06 08:56:08	I'm older, I've been on the boat since the Shogun days - it was the greatest game ever when I first played it. then it was Medieval when that came out. I have fond memories of my one Poland campaign. Rome was technically awesome, but the gameplay didn't capture me like the first two. I'm a bigger fan of the "Risk" style map, it was more strategically interesting.

Shogun was so engrossing it actually got me looking into Japanese history, and now that I am older it is one of my favorite areas of research, both in my off time and at university. I think RTW was indeed technically very impressive, but gameplay wise it had somethings that were missing.

Posts: 915 11/06/06 09:03:44	Their are quite a lot of people who have been around since Shogun, I played all the TW games and expansion least up till BI I would have gotten BI but it didn't add any thing to the original RTW campaign and Alexander TW didn't really interest, I'm defiantly buying M2tw but if the the expansion ends of being VI 2 I'll prob not bother.

You KNEW Mori would backstab you. you KNEW Hojo wouldn't (unless you were Usagi or Takeda) and YOU DEFINATLY KNEW that any assasination was from Imagawa, and you had to be wary as they loved Geisha's. And you could even have Alliances that lasted from start to end.

Posts: 68 11/06/06 09:09:32	i started with mtw 1. i had never played a game like it before and after the first hour there was no turning back. i was hooked. i am sad to say i never played shogun. it's obviously not in stores anymore and i don't feel like getting it off line.

Posts: 215 11/06/06 09:16:46	get it off line, if you liked MTW you'll dig the hell out of STW, it's a simplified verision and the immersion factor is indeed awesome. that's the one thing I didn't get from Rome was the mood - it was cool in STW and MTW looking at the campaign map like you were a general looking at a battle map. I loved how in MTW you would hear sound effects like rain on your tent while you plotted your next invasion.

I didn't play Rome I tried it out with a friends copy and frankly it didn't do it for me and I was quite disappointed with it so I didn't bought a copy of it. Now I'm returning to the series and I am eagerly waiting for Medieval II to arrive next friday

Posts: 406 11/06/06 10:40:14	I loved STW and have played MI, MTW, VI, RTW and a few mods in-between. I live in Japan and have been to some of the battle sites. One that I have been to is near Hakone close to Mt. Fuji. It is very intense IMHO and you can almost hear the twang of bows and imagine the thousands of troops lining up for battle. I am waiting too and trying to figure out how to get MTW2 over here as soon as it comes out.

Posts: 16 11/06/06 11:30:03	i started with shogun and played it till . what was the (was it blue) faction in the east? they were always my favours. i have to confess that i didn´t know about medieval till a friend told me (shame on me). bought it on the same day . since than i got every bit of the series except alexander and i think i will follow total war till the end.

I remember seeing it reviewed in PCFormat and thinking, "This sounds just like my cup of tea!" and waiting (a bit like MTWII) for it. I loved the game (though it feels very basic now compared to other TW titles) and was sad to leave the Japanese era with its Honour system and its excellent movies that kept you guessing until the last moment. My daughter`s been discovering STW too and just completed it - on Easy, I might add. But I wasn`t interested in joining the forums until about 2 years later and it`s been an eye-opener. I couldn`t believe how people could complain so much... then I saw that some of their complaints were right, some were wrong and some just plain dumb. Then I started to regret going on the forums, so i do try and limit my views here. But at the same time, there`s valuable stuff to be had like Mods, dev waffle and interesting historical info!
