Well, yes and no. This is a private forum, the rules being decided by the owners, based upon their private property rights. Freespeech 'in most western, modern nations' is a civic right, protected by law - but subject to private property rights. For example, if you come into my home, I can throw you out for saying "2+2=4" if I so wish.......whereas in Speakers' Corner Hyde Park I would have no right to remove you for saying the same thing. Clearly, freespeech is subject to limits imposed by the holders of private property rights, when such speech is made under jurisdiction of those private property rights. That's what property rights are for. That's partly why the phrase "Property is theft" has such currency to socialists and anarchists and why property is so fundamental to those political creeds.

Similarly you have freedom of movement, guaranteed in EEC by human rights act, for example. But there's still the law of trespass, damage etc. which trump your "rights" to freedom of movement.

Rather than assert there's "freespeech" here, better to accept there's absolutely no legal compulsion for ANY private property holder to allow freespeech, that all speech on private property is subject to the will of the holder of those rights, and the extent of the limits of "freespeech" under private property reflect the wider interests of the holders of the private property rights. That's what property rights confer........there'd be no "rights" under property otherwise.

I don't get grumbly when I have comments deleted because I feel CA/SEGA must bankroll my "freespeech" but rather because it's indicative of their interests and the very limited extent of my consumer rights: I'd rather they faced all criticism head-on, rather than have a safety buffer patrolled by moderators' own views, which can function to protect CA from warranted criticism from paying customers. So I don't have any criticism on the grounds of freespeech, rather that my consumer rights with regard to the product and the contract we entered into seem to be abrogated, and the fact that my rights and entitlements are clearly very limited compared to the property rights and self-interest of a large commercial corporation. CA has no legal obligation to publish my complaints, or my wishes for a refund - but imo they do have a moral obligation to do so, and, I'd argue, they do in fact have a legal obligation to refund me. But they're definitely under no legal obligation to publish anything I write here or elsewhere. Importantly, what does get published, and what does not, is a reflection of the interests and values of CA/SEGA. For example, leading high st. retailers will often give refunds without quibble, based solely on customer disatisfaction. CA/SEGA won't (nor will many other entertainment software sellers) . That reflects something of the values of those organisations, and also, maybe, their financial position. Likewise with "freespeech" - an organisation's commitment to it (or not) reflects something of the values of the organisation, regardless that they have no legal commitment to entertain "freespeech" upon their own private property. Hence the limits of freespeech are indicative of the values of CA/SEGA - or any other private property rights holder engaged in publishing in some form. And clearly there are limits here - just as there are under any private property - and they speak of whatever they do - eg anti-racism, anti-homophobia, CA's business interests and property rights, whatever........ It isn't a platform for "freespeech", and I for one have never regarded it as such.
