There used to be tons of threads about this but most people have just moved onto the mods. Here is one of the more prominent ones pre-release: 12 pages of
goodness.

Well, I feel disappointed. I've been through the release issues, I got angry and felt that I had wasted my dollars, and was pretty vocal about it on the
forums. Now, I simply feel that by the time the game, for me, is playable, I will have moved onto something else.
I've said it before, I believe the basic problem is the development philosophy: Develop, release, fix issues identified over the range of the user-market, repeat as necessary. Now, I understand that from a cost-effectiveness, continual support to the consumer perspective that's probably a good thing, but from the end-user aspect, it's only a partial benefit. Those who win (the gamers without issues), win big (don't experience problems and get all the extra goodies). Those who lose, lose badly (buy the SF edition, can't play the game and therefore don't benefit from ANY goodies, have to wait until the final repair patch to play). Eventually their participation in the forum will drop off, and the game will be shelved, possibly for good. Perhaps they'll think twice before the next purchase. Well, for me? I don't know. I think that my trips to the forums will be only to scan the latest comments on updates thread to see if things are fixed. Until a major fix comes out to allow me to load the game in a minute or two, it's pointless even thinking about the game. |

We should get at least bloodied uniforms. With shrapnel and grape shot, it's kind of strange to see a bunch of men getting knocked over with their
uniforms still looking pristine and not a single wound on their bodies.

no - it perhaps shouldn't look 'like a cheap B-movie.'
But it really should look a little like an 18C battlefield! Well, shouldn't it? I don't think a wish to see some reflection of reality is restricted to Wargael - though if you think about it, wanting gore and blood in a game can seem a little strange. Sure there issues about glorifying violence, and subjecting children to images of violence, but on the other hand, it's also strange to sanitise war: are children supposed to think that shooting, stabbing and blowing people up doesn't actually cause them to have their heads and limbs blown off? Are they supposed to imagine it just makes people lie down on the floor......as if they've suddenly fallen asleep or something? Plus there's the issue about marketing TW games to children at all because the core of the game is the principle that violence gets results. Seems likely the decision is a financial one - they need to sell it to kids. Therefore realism is sacrificed. Anyway, they definitely suggested it would be in there, and it isn't. Thanks for that information CA - that really helped me make an informed decision about buying the game, didn't it? |

I have to agree with you Celt. I was having a decent time in 1.2 and was hoping for a more polished product with 1.3 but now all I do is get dumped from the
battles. I don't believe Ca can fix this game anytime soon since they seem to break more than they fix with each patch.
I don't feel like I should have to mess with a thousand different settings and change a thousand different files in order for this game to work. That's not my job it's Ca's to figure it out. Point is there are tons of games coming out that don't have issues like this so Ca has a very faulty product and even though I wish it would be playable it's not. |

Kinda weird seeing all my soldiers dieing from ''internal injuries'' when they get shot. Gore should be there, gore was there in the 18th
century and i think it affected soldiers' morale aswell. Because right now it is like this: A soldier gets hit with a cannonball, the soldier next to him
goes: ''Hmm i guess its not so bad if you get hit with a cannonball, you don't even get injured you just sort of.... die''. Now i believe
at least raw recruits in real battle would be like this: A soldier gets hit with a cannonball, loses his leg and blood everywhere. The soldier next to him
goes: '' Oh my god! I don't want to end up like that. i need to get out of here!!!''

IMO, i think the general bugginess and "fixed here, now broken here" syndrome is because of a too large development team and poor leadership. could
also be some noob programmer unfixing everything that is being fixed.

well, I don't see why adults have to always end up playing sanitised nonesense because oh my lordy, what about the children? I'm all for protecting the
kiddies, like, but errrr.........the present solution is ridiculous. We have to play a game made for 6 yr olds. oh woohoo.
And let's face it - it's a game about war. Should it really be aimed at children? It seems a cop-out to remoce the blood but still target children with a game about war. I mean, wounding and blood and all is too violent - but shooting people and bayonetting them isn't? it's plain bizarre, really. But there we are.........anything for a bit of coin, I suppose. |

on this note - I'm playing GTA IV atm - and the adult theme and content is brilliant. It's gritty, funny - outrageously so. It's striking to hear
people swear......it's like errr.......realistic you know, man. In GTA! But not in an historically themed tactical war game? Mad.
How many 6 yr olds are calculating how to overthrow their monarchy for a republic? Not many? |

What was Medieval 2 rating? They had blood. At least the could have implemented that to Empire, as it was written in one of those FAQs that they would.
EDIT: Just checked both of my game boxes. Both Medieval 2 and Empire are rated 16+.

haha. I remember when I was at the store to buy Empire........I was looking at the SF box, and wondering if the extra units were worth the extra cash.
Boy am I glad I didn't fall for that one! :D :D :D |
