So I start the game the press new game I coose easy (just got it) I choose Late ages then choose the Italians it loads and then it goes to the desktop
again and the game shuts down.

Welcome to the forum. There may be an answer in the "crash to deskop - my solution"-thread (that's what it's called right?..yeah...).
