Patch 1.2 .NET 1.1 install changes my XP login settings |

Whats up with this .NET 1.1 install ?? I already had 1.1 on my PC and the latest version of Direct X 9c from the Microsoft website but the patch still insists
on installing both without my prior permission. I dislike any software that changes the way I interact with my PC without my prior permission. Now when I start
up the PC I have to login as myself before I can use the PC whereas before i was just taken straight to the desktop !! Not impressed CA !!
Game works fine though with the patch

Net 1.1 is needed for the new launcher to work.

DX can't update over itself, it can only update older files (which is good).
Net 1.1 is required for the patch to work (launcher), I can't see the patch with these options : [ Ok ] [ No thanks, I don't want .NET 1.1 ) I have NET 1.1 and 2.0 and it did not 're-install' the components or services regardless so if you have it already just like DX, it will just end itself. |

Right, but why the user-account. Why does it have to touch your settings with it's filthy paws

Dark is it unreasonable to expect a choice in what you install on your PC? equally i dont understand why .Net would be needed for a simple game launcher. i
have about 30 games and not one of them has needed anything else to simply launch.
it does seem particularly shoddy especially when it changes user accounts. now think of the average joe who doesnt visit the forums downloading the patch and this happening to him. he's going to think it was a virus or panic and uninstall it. its pretty silly implementation in my opinion. nice find bonalste |

Aye. What bonalste just posted should be posted on the totalwar.com together with the patch links.
Unless CA wants to lose (more) customers |

What is the NET-thinmgy required for anyways? Is it because of the survey questions in the launcher or what?...

Well it doesn't seem to allow me to delete it, as I can't find that option. Now I really regret downloading it, I should just have left this buggy game
were it belong.. on the shelf collecting dust.

Recon, follow the link posted above.

Don't delete the user. The ASPNet user is a requirement for some net apps and is ment to be hidden. If you want to renable the auto-login to your desktop,
download TweakUI from Microsoft (its under their Powertools for XP) and set your user account to automatically login.

why do they need 1.1 when 2.0 is available?

1.1 and 2.0 are both very different, almost completely new. That's why.

argosreality wrote: Good advice! I did not delete the user as previously advised by a few people. In fact I even went further and updated .NET 1.1 with its own service pack to make it more secure. Having to click my user account to get to the desktop is fast and really not a big problem at all. Would have preferred some prior notice from CA that the .NET upgrade was coming, but other than that I am happy that I have the patch and that it appears to work fine and sort every issue I had with the game. |
