I'm using ATI X1600 Pro with current catalyst drivers (November 2007) with Intel IV 2.4GHz. I have the Gold Edition and not updated. v2.0. MTW works but on occasions it would randomly CTD. my settings:

In-Game:
Strategy Mar Res. 1280*1024
Battle Map. 800*600
AGP Maxed
Pyrotechnics maxed
Sound Quality: Medium
Hardware Sound Mixing Off

Desktop Res. 1280*1024*32
Videocard settings via CCC:
AA*2
AF*2
Catalyst AI Off
Wait for Vertical Synchronisation: Always off
Adaptive AA: Off

i might install patch v.2.01 to see what happens, but first i want some stability

what i've done is saved these settings and given it a 'Medieval' profile, so i simply switch to max settings for other games

another thing i've noticed: the game is a lot more stable if your Internet Browser is closed! i can't explain this, but having Mozilla running in the background seems to cause frequent CTDs. i notice this too when i ran MTW with Internet Explorer in the background too. perhaps have all windows closed or at least minimised before running MTW?

guys hi from greece and i need a little help..

i have the "campaign crashing" issue in my brand new pc! i know that the nvidia solutions work and i want sth similar for my pc which has just intel chipset (G33-31)...i found how to disable the anisotropic thing but cant find how to put 4X in the antialiasing thing...i cant find the option in my 3d options...

does anyone know where is this F*cking option?

im going sick with this campaign thing...((

Welcome to the forums Adis4qr.
I just figured it out a few days ago. Thanks to Weilkopolski & LordRick for their posts on page 7 of this post.
Useing the NVidia control panel , which has a profile for MTW , I was able to turn anisotropic off & have antialiasing to 4x whenenever the MTW:VI program runs.

yes i tested it on my brothers pc with geforce 7300 and it played perfectly...

is there a way to be played on my pc?

in case i put the geforce 7300 on my pc will i have compatibility? my pc is a dualcore..

Intel 2.0 Centrino dual-core , 2GB of ram & a NVidia GeForce Go 7950 GTX V-Card. WinXP sp2-updated. Works fine on this machine.
I do not think that DualCore is an issue for MTW.

You've got the same card as me. If you wish to read my goodbye thread for more info on what I have and what I have tried. In the final, you will be able to play the campaign only as far as auto-executing the battles. Our card is the problem.

That doesn't work anymore. NVidia's new load of *#%+ drivers won't let even this option work. And everytime I'm in the mood for some MTW VI, the latest driver is worse than the last one. Is there anyway to pedition CA for a patch to fix this 2 year old problem? It is their responsiblilty after all, not nvidia's, because it is THEIR GAME.

OT: Does Shogun have this problem too, because it is the same engine. If it doesn't, only MTW VI is the rogue game. In the name of democracy I demand a MTW VI patch!!

Don't quote me on this yet, but I'd thought I'd spread good word. So far it has only worked with Ancient TW but has worked beautifully. Just leave all 3D settings the same and turn off your screensaver.

I am now on the verge of doing a highlanddave here and give this wonderful game up for another game that is actually playable. I have had problems with CTD from time to time since I bought the Gold Edition and bought a new computer, but now it is totally unplayable. I'm running a dual core processor 2,67 Ghz, 2 GB RAM and a nvidia geforce 8800 gtx and the funny thing is that the game actually ran for some time on this comp but now it just crashes to desktop whenever I try to start a new campain. I have tried every single sollution posted here and more but I just can't get it to work anymore.

However, last night I tried to start up a VI campain and to my surprise that actually worked. I played the campain for several years and both the strategic and battle map worked just fine. I even tried different screen resolutions to push my luck but it ran smoothly every time with every setting. I haven't seen anyone here on the forums with this twist to the problem so I'm posting it here to see if anyone can figure out why the VI campain is working fine while the original campain doesn't work at all.

I haven't tried again for a couple months. At the time I had the most recent drivers, but maybe something has come along since my last try. Are you saying you have the GeForce 8600 working? If so, I will definitely try again.

It's coming soon by delivery. Do you mind trying out MTW VI with the latest drivers? With Tiberyius' addon to MTW XL, I wouldn't miss it for a bit.

i bought this game yesterday and i think that it %^&$%$ sucks that they have not already developed a patch for this problem.... im off to play age of empire....at least microsoft looks after its customers.....the game will be returned to the shop tomorrow...enjoy another returned game!!!!!

Hi guys, i am a noob about video drivers etc and I have a question.

I really fond of MTW 1 and viking invasion and it always worked for me on my desktop PC however. However, this machine stands upstairs in the study and I (but also my GF) likes me to sit in the living. Not that I am that hooked but i'd like to play MTW 1 once in a while. I have a intel core 2 duo HP compaq 6710b with 2 gig and a Intel(r) 956 express video card. I installed the game and tried a quick battle (figured that the 3d might be a problem) and it worked!! Next I tried to start a campaign but now the system stalls, sometimes to main menu, sometimes to the desktop. I have browsed through all the suggestions above but didnt see a solution to my problem. Any suggestions?

- HP Compaq 6710b
- Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo CPU
- T7500 @ 2.20 GHZ
-2.19 GHz, 1,99 GB of RAM
- WIN XP Pro
- anything else?

--> MTW 1 campaing stalls to destkop or mainmenu

OK I've been following this thread (and it really goes back to 2005 WOW) for an answer to my problem, and it looks like I found it. I've had problems on past machines where MTW (1) would hang/crash at odd times. I was running on a machine with Windows XP Pro, BFG 7600GS video card, and really thought it was my card going bad. I may still be right about that, because there were other games (NWN, STW, RTW) crashing too.

So I went out and upgraded my entire machine Includind the OS (to Vista Ultimate 32 bit) just to find that the game won't even get past the initial Map. Now I find that there is no patch for this (and most likely won't ever be since this thread has been running for almost 3 years without a fix). I guess there is only one thing left for me to do.

Any one want to buy a used copy of the following games?

Shogun Total War /with the mongol invasion expansion
Medevil Total War
Rome Total War

Just Kidding I love these games so much I'll just setup an older machine with an old (cruddy) video card and play these games on that one. I really hope the new "EMPIRE" Total War will at least run on a good video card.

I'll keep monitoring this thread to see if anyone has a better work around.

BTW: New system stats (for trouble shooting)
EVGA 780i Motherboard
Intel Core 2 DUO 3.0GHz processor(s)
EVGA 8800GT 512Mb video card
4GB of DDR2 (800MHz) RAM
Windows Vista Ultimate 32bit.

ok i have this problem with the game crashing to the desktop, i have read through parts of this thread but i dont know enough about computers to know what half the stuff your saying means.
could someone help me please? btw i have vista if that helps, havent had it long enough to know where anything really is on here so full instructions of where things are would be extremely helpful.

Hello, Ive be trying to play mtw gold edition for a few days now w\ little to luck. and like every one here I do have to tell you the problem I'm having. CTD!!!!! I can pick the time , the players, it goes to the loading screen , it fully loads, then bang, DESKTOP. I have a Sony Vaio w/ geforce fx5200 video card. Help if you can.
