Whether you let the AI manage settlements, taxes, or battles is your choice. I personally manage everything except late game taxes. My reasoning is simple:
I don't trust the AI as an opponent, so surely not as an aide de camp.
But there is a set priority list I follow each turn so as not to miss any details. Briefly,
1. Current mission progress
2. Finances
3. Construction
4. Clear Rebels and Pirates
5. Agents and subterfuge
6. Move and fight
7. Fleets
8. Retrain/Recruit
9. End turn
This is a basic template subject to change as the situation presents. But it is also a good reigns on my sometimes-lofty ambitions. In STW, I found my main weakness to be lack of restraint. I wanted to win. NOW! But this more methodical approach, begun with MTW and refined during RTW, seems to serve well for M2. At first I found it almost task-like; more of a chore than a game. But as time passed I couldn't imagine playing otherwise lest I missed a key decision. It's become a habit and, admittedly, one I enjoy. Attention to detail is actually fun! It invariably leads to a better outcome.
And so,
Does anyone else prioritise their turns?
If so, why do you do one task before the other?
And, finally, do you find prioritization helpful or stifling?
I thought this may serve as an interesting subject for our little community. Perhaps we'll even learn something from one another or garner ideas for better enjoyment. But remember, there is no wrong answer. Everyone's response is valid because *megaphone, please*
This is just a game!
This thread is merely about preferences and choices. If you choose to leave it all to the AI, fine. If you split things up, great. But if you enjoy delving into each turn's slightest minutiae, that's also fine. I look forward to reading about your individual styles of prioritization.
