praise for retrofit | #181
|
after playing several campaigns on Vanilla VH VH and finding them a walkover in the later stages..after about turn 100, I decided to download Retrofit and
Grand unit add on. Now I'm on turn 350 and struggling. The Muslims have a Jehad against me including about 30 stacks of Mongols and the Timurids. After
accidentally not lifting a siege at Papal request I was excommunicated and a Crusade launched against me. My armies are so big trying to defend myself ..about
50,000 per turn, that I'm in the red. I gave the Pope 1000 a turn for 10 turns did no good. The Pope lived to 65 and was replaced by an English pope who
hates my guts, despite me having more cardinals in the vote??. Im roleplaying the game as chivalrously as I can..no sacking or exterminations..only assassinate
assassins.no declaring war on christians etc. This retrofit is bloody marvelous...thankyou

major differences between Retrofit and LTC Gold? | #182

Are there major differences between Retrofit and LTC Gold?

I've never understood why people ask that sort of question, didn't you read the information about both mods before asking? But yes, there are major
changes. Retrofit Mod is basically just an "unofficial patch" for the Grand Campaign, bringing it up to date (retrofitting) with Kingdoms. LTC is a
major mod project that changes many aspects of the game, removes the Grand Campaign, and introduces new campaigns.

I'm sorry Yakaspat,
I am an older guy overwhelmed by all the info that flows thru the net on this game and all of the previous TW games, which I own. I was playing LTC gold and saw the reference to retrofit and what I saw in a post was the AI inprovement in both and the Kingdom feature addons that were now available in Retrofit. When you have little time to do the research, sometimes it helps to ask a "stupid" question in one place and have it answered, which you did. I am actually playing both mods now, though I only get about an hour a day to do this. I see some people referring to finishing multiple numbers of campaigns and wonder where they find the time. I never managed to play all of the factions in Rome, before MTW2 came out... I have never played an historical battle in any of the games.. So, sorry to have perturbed you by asking, but you did answer.. Thanks.. Terry |

No problem Terry, I hope you are able to find more time and research sometimes. Good luck with your campaigns. :-)

Retrofit Mod -- "Wrong Disc"? | #186
|
Just purchased the Kingdoms Gold box from Best Buy, installed, updated with latest patch and came here to get the Retrofit Mod. I installed it, but when I try
to launch it tells me I have the "wrong disc" inserted, regardless which of the two cd's I put in. (MTW2, or Kingdoms). Is the Retrofit Mod not
compatible with Kingdoms 1.5?
I did notice that the discs do not install MTW and MTW:Kingdoms, but instead it breaks it down into the separate Kingdoms campaigns on install. So now I have separate launchers for Americas, Crusades, Brittania, etc. I double checked, and I do seem to have the correct patch installed, it's the US Kingdoms Gold version 1.5. Anyone else have this issue? Thanks for any advice. |

The Retrofit is definately compatible with the 1.5 Kingdoms patch, but, I'm not sure about the Gold Edition....it should work though I think.
BTW, it is normal to have the different desktop icons for all the campaigns. Make sure you have the Kingdoms disk in the drive and double click the Retrofit Mod desktop icon to launch it. |

With respect to the Grand Unit Add On, I have noticed that when I acquire a Hospitaller Headquarters I am able to recruit the Marshall of the Templars, but not
the Marshall of the Hospitallers.
Strange. |

Here is the Hospitaller HQ data entry:
st_johns_hq requires factions { england, france, scotland, denmark, hungary, poland, papal_states, milan, sicily, venice, }Are you sure you have the Grand Unit Addon and not the old Madrono's Unit Addon Mod? I remember there was a similar problem with that mod. Do you have the latest version of the GUAM, version 6.0? Perhaps you are playing with an older, bugged version? Do you have a screenshot of the Hospitaller HQ building Templar Marshalls? Please post your response in the Grand Unit Addon Mod thread and not in Unspoken Knight's thread. |

I have a question though on setting up the hotseat game for retrofit 1.0. I have an order of turns I would like the factions to be played, but for the life of
me I cannot figure out how to implement it. When selecting factions, it doesn't matter which order I select the factions, the turn order is always the same
order as to which the faction symbols appear in the setup screen. How do I set up the campaign so that I can dictate which order the factions are played?
Edit: Post 1000!

I can't remember exactly, but the turn order is determined by either the order of factions in descr_strat.txt or the order of factions in
descr_sm_factions.txt.

I think it is descr_sm_factions, but I can't remember either. Does it really matter, though?

It does make a difference especially when allied nations are mounting an offensive campaign. If an ally wants to move in concert with his ally, it makes a
difference if an enemy faction can make a move in between the two allied nations. For example, if say France moved to siege a Spanish city, Spain will have a
much harder time breaking the siege if say England, a hypothetical ally of France, is also given the opportunity to send his army to also siege the same
Spanish city. If Spain's turn is right after France's, then Spain only has to fight a single army, not both France and England because England
hasn't had the opportunity to move it's army to assist in the siege.
I tried messing with both the descr_sm_factions.txt and descr_strat.txt. no dice. As a side note, when switch just the order in which the info inthe descr_sm_factions.txt file, the only difference ingame was that the faction specific agent/character voice sounds were switched. I have English speaking French and the French speaking with English accents. yeesh. |

Downloaded it yesterday, played for the first time this evening, must say, I'm loving it, question though, could it be that the AI is a bit tougher ? Got my back side kicked tonight by the French, they also went on from one siege to the next in the following turn. |

Does this mod or the grand unit addon have better battle map AI?

They both use the Kingdoms AI tweaks from what I understand.

I have some questions for people who played this mod. How's the Mongols and Timurids? Do they go on a crazy rampage with the only possible way to stop it
being me? I really hope so!
Edit: post nr. 200 in this thread! :)
