First I am playing TW series from the first Shogun. When I got RTW I was surprising that I can play only for romans. Always want try to beat them as carthaginians

in such games. MTW2 make me feel not really good when I saw same system of unlocking other nations. As ETW goes on I would like to see all playlable nations will be available after installing the game. Quess many old TW veterans would want try lead to glory their original nation first instead of easy going famous, but other nations. Will it be Shogun/MTW or RTW/MTW2 style?

They'll likely have a system similar to RTW and M2... so far what is known is 10 playable factions and 40 or so others unlockable (?) plus unplayable...

Bah, I agree with Yermak let us be able to choose whatever nation we want from the start!
Dont understand why you in med2 had to do as i did: I really wanted to free the scots wallace style but scotland was no where to be found :O So what i did was crank all the settings to easy and steamroll over the scots + the other objectives just to have the "Freeeeedom" to play the faction i wanted!
Same in Rome.. I wanted to play Greece most of all, then the barbarians... Romans was more of an afterthought to me.

Or you could go to the descr_strat.txt and move the unlockable factions to playable. It can be done in under a minute

. Or, you could edit the preference file (I'm not sure how though, but it's just as easy).

IMO, they probably inserted the initial 'playable' factions in order to narrow down the scope of the game. For one thing, it'll give new players somewhere to start from; It'll also lower down the quality requirements for unlockable factions as well (like in Rome and M2, unlockable factions have less depth and detail than the starters).

p.s. I'm on the all factions playable immediately side

I don't like edditing my game files. Just incase I completely trash my game for ever from a single typo.

Same for me actually, but cant be as bad as playing an entire campaign just to be able to play as the scots :P

Copy and paste the text file you are amending, then in the event you do have a disaster you simply replace the original file. It really is that easy. It's most unlikely any alterations you make will cause a catrastrophic failure. Then again..........

Yeah... like what percy said, make a backup, and then experiment with editing. Those txt files are meant to be editted anyway! CA intentionally included them so that we could tinker with much of the game's content and make our own mods. Also, a typo typically shouldn't cause anything worse than a CTD. Usually my mistakes only caused the campaigns not being able to intialize...

Edit: oh ya, there's an error log to help pinpoint where you messed up too...

i just hope in Empires we can unlock all the factions, that would last along time :)

also in RTW when i play as greece i always play "THIS IS SPAAARRRRTAAAAHHH!!!!!!!" stlye campaigns

When Empires is released you'll learn how to unlock the lot here within minutes, I'd guess.

I remember the Greek MOD for MTW1 and the Spartan guys in that were seriously scary. Added to that was terrain so extreme at places you could hold off armies 20 times you size.
