Posts: 5 01/09/08 13:50:27	Tags : invasion, barbarian, trade Ok, gang. Been playing sense shogun so i know the ropes but i'm stuck on something. I'm playing the Alemanni, i have seven citys and most are over 12000 in population. When i conquer a city i exterminate or enslave then distroy all religious buildings and any non needed military buildings. The order of building after that is temples, roads, farms or trader/market/bizzare, ports, sewers/baths and then if i'm going to create troops military buildings. As you can see my primary interest in any city is to develop money. My problem is this: 6 of my 8 citys were roman so i've got paved roads and ALL of my citys have the highest level of trade/market/bizzare that you can have, yet i'm only getting 1636 in trade, TOTAL for all of my citys. When i look at the map, I can see only one little tiny cart on a couple of roads. What is going on? It's like I haven't turned some trade button on that i need. Are the barbarians so bad that they don't trade with each other? I don't get it? I'm new to BI but played the hell out of Rome. Usually, no problems in Rome. Please help? Sorb

I had to retreat from Europe and spread into Italy for pure economic reasons and still wasn't all that well off. One suggestion I have is to attack neighboring barbarian factions, take a city, exterminate the population and destroy every building you can for the cash. Don't garrisson or anything. Do this a few times and your cash reserves should increase a lot. Sens out as many diplomats as you can, set trade agreements wherever you can, also blanket spies all over the map, if you can light up good portions of the map, you can sell map information for a good price. Other than that, upgrade your markets and ports as much as you can.

Posts: 5 01/09/08 16:06:17	Ok, thanks. that's one method i'm useing. I find the romans usually have bigger citys and taking and holding the biggest ones but completly distroying one or maybe two, leave, come back 5 or 10 turns later and do it again works good too. They seem to have more money.

Posts: 1323 01/09/08 16:20:57	@wtfsorbs-this is only a suggestion but you might want to hang onto all the Italian cities, they have access to good trade routes in the Mediterranean and will bring in good cash flow. Expand into Sicily too. Anything that has a port will be good for steady income. I don't know how your campaign is going but if you can expand along the coast to the west into Spain you've got mines available too. The trade routes around Greece are very lucrative as well. @ Cogre--I made the mistake of expanding north of my capital and almost went broke trying to hold interior Europe. Barbarian factions don't have a lot of technological advances and need to expand to good trade routes for staedy income.

Other than that, upgrade your markets and ports as much as you can. never had that problem playing Alemanni. Barbarians like to trade too. Why wouldn't they? If ur at war being the barbarians, trade wont go too well. Capture settlements and the central regions should have fine trade from the neighbouring regions.
