Posts: 2 08/01/08 12:37:30	Tags : battles, rome, huns, eastern roman empire This Topic is for posting any impressive battles from Rome: Total War or its expansions. I'll start with my bragging right: On RTW:BI, Normal difficulty, I defeated the entire Hun hord in a single battle. As the Eastern Roman Empire I had built forts at my end of the two northernmost bridges in the empire. However, as the vast majority of my troops were being sent south to face the Sassanid Empire (The Immortals...Would... Not...Die!) they were severely undergarrisoned. When the Huns attacked they attacked so that they had every single unit IN THEIR ARMY available as reinforcements. The strength assessment should give you a VERY good idea of how dire my situation truly was: 1:30000. My current garrison at this time consisted of: 1x 3 star General (Inexperinced)+Bodyguards 200x Roman Auxiliaries 3x wounded mercenary units (2 spearmen, 1 archer) Huns: TOO MANY UNITS!!!!! 15x Warlords I remember every single aspect of the battle as well, but since I have now been typing and correcting typing mistakes for over 45 minutes, I will add those details at a later date. Feel free to tell any Epic Total War tales of your own!

Posts: 421 08/01/08 14:03:40	i havent fought many huge battles like that. i have a few embarrassing defeats(on vanilla large size, 10 units of half auxilia, so each one about had 40 men left, some more defendending wooden walls lost to 5 pharoahs bowmen and they didnt use a si gle arrow), but i had a couple good ones. most involve big walls. but once i had one stacks, already weary from defeating 7 full egyptian stacks without being healed, took on 4 more at once...and won! luckily they came one at a time in one battle, so it was 4200 or so, mostly chariots pharoahs gueards and pharoahs bowmen, and desert axemen, agaist 850 half destroyed romans, praetorians and roman cav. unfortunately it the next battle it fought 3 at once, when egypt attacked, i had 500 men and 17 units left (on large! 80 infantry to a unit! not much left.) i pressed auto by accident. oh well, they got 3 times as many kills in that AI battle.

Posts: 783 08/01/08 14:17:41	I just defeated the largest force ever to invade my lands with only one legion. There isn't much to tell, it was my onagers and archers that really won the battle. There was already 5000 enemy dead before the legion had to fight.

Posts: 1479 08/01/08 15:02:48	This battle happened today, unfortunately I have no corresponding pictures, as it was a close defeat and felt no need to remind myself of my failure. Vanilla, H/VH. My Brutii army of 8 hastati, 2 equite, 1 cretean archer, 1 scorpion (senate gift, otherwise I would not have trained it) 2 velite, and 2 generals assaulted the un-walled army of Sparta. Ironically I was reminded before hand of Pyhrrus' attempt to take Sparta in a similar scenario (Spartan reinforcements, few defending the city itself). I had my main force go around the city to face the enemy reinforcements of 11 militia hoplites, 3 militia cavalry and 1 general's bodyguard while my missles and irregulars pelted the only unit of spartan hoplites who had foolishly left the safety of the city. All went as planned initially, I focused my forces on one flank and was rolling the enemy back. Unfortunately my forces were worn down and a lowly unit of cretean archers was able to flank one of my engaged hastati, causing a chain rout amongst my men. I was able to finish off the reinforcements with my cavalry, but deemed it hopeless to attempt to take the city which still had most of its garrison in take and beat a hasty retreat. The aftermath? I had an army on it's way from southern Italy as the battle took place so the heroic defense was ultimately futile. (edit: added paragraphs)

Posts: 1754 08/01/08 15:40:50 Tiro	I destroyed 10 of Messalla's armies with only 1 stack of Scythians. On VH.... Nuf said. It's true! You should've seen the long line of Romans stuck in the Alps because of 1 fort! Most of my battles ain't that special. Just the normal seek and destroy battles regardless of faction. It's the chain of events leading up to those ten battles that makes them special.

The only battle I ever really won that I didn´t actually expect wining was this one (yes, I´ve shown it maybe 3 times before, but what the hell, it´s my only really vivid memory of Vanilla. VH, actually all to easy (kinda convinced me to go EB). I just let them attack my infantry and then charged them in the back, easy as that. Stupid Vanilla. Oh, and no, I made no use of the river or its bridge. Probably would have lost if I tried.

Posts: 421 08/02/08 01:30:38	i just won a good one. a full stack on pontics, 18 eastern infantry and 2 eastern generals, against 3 cretan archers, 1 rhodian slingers, and 1 princeps. and 1 general.my missiles took out 1800 men. amazing. i didnt even know they had that much ammo! but the idios put the entire army in one big clump. they pretty much all routed at once, then my general slaughtered.
