Posts: 161 10/18/08 03:40:21	Tags : None I wonder if recruiting costs u population from your settlements such as in Rome total war I found that lacking in MTW2 small castles that spam units and units, if you lost in Rome total war a full stack army on huge settings with for example germania it really hurts because u didnt have enough population to rebuild that army fast I hope they include it in Empire total war aswell so it hurts more if you lose an army(less citizens less taxes)

Posts: 11 10/18/08 07:50:59	When I got bored with Rome, I began playing as a tiny faction such as Armenia. My goal as a tiny faction was not immediate expansion, but to keep a low profile and slowly build up my tiny kingdom's military and economic infrastructure. To me, it was much more entertaining knowing that every battle was an important one due to the fact that I had only one or two cities and a very limited population. It was great to see Pontus going from sending huge stacks of elite troops to only an occasional stack of desert spearmen. That's when I would move in on them. Limited population is a great idea and I would love to see it implemented onto the game. It really does add so much more to replayability.

Then someone would a unit and lose 120 guys where as the guy on small settings would only lose like 16. Unless they do something where its like regardless of what unit scale you're on it takes the population of normal unit scale. I guess that would work.

I don't know why that was taken out in M2TW, because it broke another realistic link, and allowed factions to field many more armies than they should have been able to. Posts: 8792 10/18/08 13:36:44	The AI couldn't handle the system in RTW. It would recruit so much that its settlements would stay at 400 people and the settlement would never advance. I prefer a seperate manpower pool that is independent of city advancement.

Milan, I'm looking at you here... I think they did away with it in ME II because they introduced the recruitment pools, where you can only recruit an X number of a certain unit type. Then, or so they must have reasoned, the deduction from the city's population was no longer needed. So, yes agreed bring it back and indeed as GM pointed out let the AI handle it with care, although I doubt we will see many villages around the 400 mark. That said, as we can place reqruitment stuff outside the city and there are villages around the province capital, would it still be a simple 1:1 ? One could reason that the villages could contribute men as well, which complicates things.

Posts: 478 10/18/08 15:30:35	The units were actually being trained in advance and then sent them into active service in Med2, so no population is lost.
