Very Nice, a ship that can make raids into enemy waters because of its speed!

Truly awesome Sensei! That ship looks beast.
Just a few quick questions, if you will: A) Are these ships going to have a place in your navy when you can afford fleets of larger ships? I mean, is the description accurate for their role within the game? (I.E- Will they be useful for commerce raiding, and such) B) Are there going to be different sizes of Frigates? Frigates sometimes had from 20-44 guns, and I believe the British built a lot of 32 gun frigates during the end of the century. Thats all, fantastic work guys, I'm so stoked for this game. |

I take back all my comments I made a year ago that the new ship models look plastic-ish. The ship models have really come a long, long way. Indeed, they are now near photo-realistic. The attention to detail and historical accuracy is inspired. Thanks CA! |

what they mean with a "single-deck" ship is(i think i know) =)
that the "deck guns" is always there, a ship always has guns on top deck but if a ship has guns on the lower decks you count that as a "single deck ship" nice ship CA!

Ooh interesting. Probably todays equivalent of a cruiser. And the sloop would be a destroyer.

GIMJ wrote: No, it is one deck in terms of 17th-18th century naval terminology. A two deck ship would have a top deck, and two lower gun decks. A one deck ship would have a top deck and then one lower deck of gunports. In the picture, there are only two lines of gunports...the ship is obviously a single gundeck frigate (again, you don't count the top deck). |

I believe a gun deck was defined as an unbroken line of guns from bow to stern. The weather deck or top deck was typically stopped at the quarted deck and
began again at the fore deck. Later ships had a walk way that connected the quarterdeck with the foredeck. See the movie "BillyBud" the old black and
white version.
Flush decked ships carried their main armaments on the main/weather deck but the sides of the ship came higher to be able to attach the breaching ropes. Greg. |

frigates on strategy map | #18 | ||||||

Frigate looks nice. Are frigates faster than ships of the line on the strategy map? Btw. do wind effects or the lack of wind affect ships on the strategy map as well as on the battle map, e.g. ships not able to leave port, ships moving with different speeds in the Channel because of prevailing wind directions?! |

Looks nice...but with it already confirmed that merchant fleets will not be visible in battle map, I don't see how you will be doing commerce raiding or
taking prizes.
Shallow water operations and the ability to do reconnaissance also seems mooted by the fact that we cannot attack on-shore facilities via the sea (which also raises questions about the value of ketches and sloops). What I am saying is, with many things abstracted or not calculated at all, what is the incentive to use frigates as opposed to just ships of the line in your stacks, besides cheaper price of course? As ElusiveHonor already touches on, when we grow massive resource ability and can produce super ships, what sense is there in the frigate? |
