Been trying to play M2TW Kingdoms and M2TW, but they just haven't been working right. The following glitches happen? Could it be my computer, or is it
the game itself?
I'm on kingdoms patch 1.3
1. Unit Engagement glitch-
when I order a unit to engage in a melee, the unit starts to move toward the enemy I targeted to fight. The problem is, the first unit to reach the enemy halts
the attack. So if there was one man at the head of the group, just by a few feet, he is the only one that fights. Everyone else stands and watches, even if
there is plenty of room to move up and fight. Consequently, the game is extremely slow paced. When units engage melee I have to watch one guy fight another,
then a few more move up, then a few more, then a few more. I reinstalled Rome and found that in Rome, they all move up to engage, or at least most do.
2. Infantry charge glitch-
because of the previous glitch, infantry charges also fail. Even if i charge outside the radius and inside an area that would weary them too greatly. Still,
the first guy to reach the enemy halts the entire charge, meaning he gets the charge bonus on a couple enemies and the rest of my guys just stop. In Rome,
everyone charges forward and fights
3.Cavalry charge glitch-
same as above, because when the first cavalryman enters combat they all seem to stop, or put away their lances and take out swords before enough impact is
caused. same glitch as above, the few in the front fight while others stand back and watch. I was trying to kill siege equipment with a swift cavalry attack
and retreat before enemy spearmen could get me, but it doesnt work . I bring in my cav, the first one stops and he just fights one siege guy while everyone
else stands and watches, giving enemy spearmen time to come and engage my cav. I've noticed that in Rome, the cav charges work because (many of you
probably also noticed) the cav that first reaches the enemy keeps moving through them until the mass of enemies completely prevents his horse from moving. The
second line of cav (with certain units) will LEAP over the first line and engage. Not in Medieval II, sadly...
In addition, if the enemy unit moves at all, they won't use their lances. Also, when they are pursuing enemies, when they get just close enough to take one
out, they stop and they wait and units get away, then they start to pursue again!! You know why this happens? same reason. Since one is close enough to engage
one enemy, yes I guy, and the if unit is engaged to enemy unit command is True, they all have to stop and watch the horseman engage, and then catch up with the
retreating unit again. You know... just a pointer to the programmers... you don't need to perform a check on the unit as a whole to see if it is engaged
with the enemy unit(so if one guy is fighting one guy in enemy unit the if statement is true)... I don't even know programming but I can tell you, you
should check every guy in the unit to see if he is engaged, and then the one's engaged will come up true and the one's not engaged come up false, then
you can send in the one's not engaged! D= I may be completely wrong but this is how it seems like it works to me...
it could simply be like this
for each unit
If playerunit x,y=enemyunit x,y
orderscompleted=1
endif
If orderscompleted=1
Stopgroup
CombatMode
Endif
I know it is far more complicated than that, but that's just an example of what seems to be happening
and what should happen would be like
For each soldier
If playersoldier x,y=enemysoldier x,y
orderscompleted=1
Else MovetoEnemy
endif
If orderscompleted=1
Stopgroup
CombatMode
Endif
4. Musketeers glitch-
I started playing the americas campaign but quickly gave it up when I was faced with all these glitches in addition to the musketeers glitch I encountered. I
had two groups of musketeers lined up in rows, and tell them to fire, but they won't. There are no enemies between them and the enemy, they just stand
there with their guns raised and pointed, but they just won't fire! anyway, in the end they got into one of those fights where 1% of the units duke it out
at a time and it takes an hour. You know what I'm talking about?
5. Siege equipment glitch-
One time I told my siege equipment (catapults) to attack. They started to spin in circles and did nothing. They literally grabbed their catapults and started
doing circles, like maybe the getting in position to attack programming is really bad.
The sad thing is, if all the mechanics worked, Medieval II would be a way better game than Rome: Total War. However, since they don't, I have to say Rome:
Total War is a better game.
Can someone tell me if these are known glitches or if it's my computer. Because if these are known glitches, and they happen to everyone, I can't
believe anyone plays this game. It's so glitchy and hard to play it makes me sad =( and wishing they spent more time on it
