Since the Steam version and the box version are the same price in the U.S. (and you get the boxed version sooner) I see no reason to do a digital download. However I've done digital downloads before, and they've always been fine for me. Your discs are far more likely to get damaged than Steam is to go under. Fortunately with Steam, whether you buy from them directly or not, they let you download the game.
