Hi guys,
I'm a longtime fan of the TW series ever since Shogun came out, and it's killing me that I can't play this game! I'm getting the same unspecified error message others have been reporting but for me it only happens on the battle map, usually about fifteen minutes in (i.e. hallfway through the battle). The exact timing of the error is random- on one fluke attempt I was able to go for 2 hours without a crash on the same battle - just leaving it running in the pre battle sequence. That is by far the longst though, it almost always crashes within fifteen minutes. It happens on all maps, with all races, all units and all weather settings. If I leave the game in the deployment phase it will still crash in about 15 minutes. I've not been able to isolate anything remotly likely to be 'triggering' the crash.
Other than the error, the game plays beautifully - the campaign map never gives me any trouble, and the battle map works flawlessly on the highest settings until it inevitably crashes! The copy of the game I have seems to work fine on my friends computers so it must be a compatibility issue with my system, but I can't think what. I even bought two copies of the game and have been getting the exact same issue with both.
I have been playing Doom 3, HL2, Farcry 2, WAR and Mass Effect regularly without the slightest problems with any of them.
If anyone could take the time to look at this for me I'd be very grateful!
Here's my Specs:
Intel Core2Duo
Nvidia Geforce 9600gt
4gigs of Kingston RAM
320 gig SATA 2 HD
And I'm using my 42" HD LCD TV on 1080p (1920x1080) resulution (i've tried running the game on lower resolutions and on my smaller monitor with no effect)
Here's what I've tried already:
Played with and without the patches
Played with and without the expansion pack
Reinstalled the game (repeatedly)
Renistalled the patches
Reinstalled the latest drivers for my hardware
Stress tested my CPU and GPU (No errors)
Ran memtester and spinwrite (no errors)
Ran in compatiblilty mode
Ran in administrator mode
Ran with the lowest settings and resolution possible
Ran with the highest settings and resolution possible
Ran on Windows XP
Ran on Vista (yep. I bought vista for this game....)
