In my latest game (French, Early, Normal) I took in a crusade Naples from the Byzantines.
Every time I capture Naples the (or own it with the Byzantines from start) there is this pattern: The Holy Father and my Sicilian allies watch me build up the province. Than after some political intrigue and war against other factions the Pope and the Sicilians first terminate our alliance and then launch a joint attack on Naples.
Now with the French I destroyed the enemy army, killed the Sicilian King and some of their princes. But as usual the Pope miraculously escaped. He already fled during battle while his soldiers did not rout.
Now my question is: Did anyone ever catch and ransom the Pope?
Maybe he has some saint protecting him.
