After working out how to stop the pope from respawning * I decided to try and kill EVERYBODY on the Grand Campaign Map before the turn timer ran out (200 turns
or something).
And.......I failed. I stopped paying attention to the amount of turns remaining and by the time I had manouvered my armies into battle with the last 3 mongol generals left (I had taken all the cities on the map and killed the timurids), I was on my last turn and unable to finish them off in one go. The closest of ..... but no cigars.
Typically, I had just been quicksaving away for days, so there is no chance of going back (the danger of ctrl+s !).
Has anyone ever destroyed all other factions (i.e. killed all their family members and taken all their cities), including the pope? (although you don't seem to get a "faction destroyed" message for that).
Of course, what led me on was the vague fantasy that doing this would unlock something...........
*(just kill all catholic factions - if you are playing one yourself, do that, including the papal states, and then put all your priests and cardinals into single unit navies of the worst boats you have and send them to their watery dooms)
