Today i purchased a copy of empire total war to complete my up to date Total war collection. By far the best game series i have played. Ive been a loyal fan since the first medieval total war. To my absolute disgust upon installing the game i see the steam installer come up and cringe at the memories of when they destroyed counter strike and many other games with their over complicated and extremly annoying game service that seems to specialze in running you around in circles for a couple of hours just to add to your frustrations when you have a problem. Just a heads up to sega and the creative assembly team "read your game forums". There are thousands of complaints littered around the internet not just for your game but for all the other unfortunate game distributors that where lured into this black hole with promises of never having to deal with another support email again. Guess what, it comes with being a game distributor, we are an annoying and demanding bunch of couch potatoes that will drive you up the wall. But we make you money lots and lots of money especially when you have made such a fantastic product. But you know this from the gfk data you recieve from all your retail stores.
But today you loose a customer!
- Not because the game i tried to install out of the box tells me someone has already activated that account.
- Not because you used steam the most hated platform in the gaming world with thousands of posts all over the internet attributing to this fact.
- Not because i need internet to play a single player game or that if i ever wanted to trade this game in for another game i cant because the keycode is attached to an account that can only be used once.
It's because while watching an interview on gamespot with Kieran Bridgen for Napoleon Total war he recognized their where major problems with steam but went on to say "overall it had been a massive bonus to them" and they would still be using steam in the future.
When you stop listening to us we stop buying from you.
Tommorow ill return my copy to the store for a refund. Ill look in to my game stores from time to time to see if they have stopped using steam but for now im done with the Total war series ill keep playing the old ones and pray they return to their sens
