Here is an AAR of my 2nd full campaign, playing as the French in the 1805-1812 scenario, my 1st campaign was as the British so I’m expecting this to be a lot harder.
Difficulty set to H/N – I’m not great at battles and am still learning how to do it in the age of muskets, not to mention my performance on the high seas! I’m also still learning the basic campaign mechanics so feel free to criticise my build and/or movement choices!
I’ll play out battles except the walkover’s that I just don’t find fun and with my current performance I don’t expect I could win with less casualties than the auto resolve anyway!
I’ll do by best with screenshots but no promises – I usually miss the good ones!
Early January 1805
Claude Ambroise Regnier (Chancellor) is sacked and replaced
Projected income – 1647 Gold (Trade bringing in 1453)
Prussia (Hostile) – Swap Hannover for Cleves-Mark, Army Corps Organisation for Public Schooling and Division of labour for fire and advance drill. They want 410 for a trade agreement which we accept as hope to make more long term. They are now only unfriendly towards us!
Ottoman Empire (Unfriendly) – Trade agreement made. 4 techs sold for total of 3000 Gold. Our nations are now indifferent to each other.
Spain (Unfriendly but allied and trading!) – Sell them public Schooling for 500 Gold but they reject all other offers!
Denmark (Indifferent) – Trade agreement made, won’t pay enough for tech!
Hessen (Unfriendly) – Trade agreement made and now indifferent
Portugal (Hostile) – Want 310 gold for trade agreement which I accept, now merely unfriendly!
Mecklenburg (indifferent) - Trade agreement made
Oldenburg (unfriendly) – trade agreement made and now indifferent
Now making 3544 Gold from trade including 349 from Prussia and 285 from Portugal so both those trade agreement will pay for them selves within a month. Total profits = 3549
Toulon begins construction of a trading port, Genoa begins construction of 1st Merchant ship, Liege starts a Members club and Orleans begins upgrading to a classical University.
Some mines and farms are also upgraded.
The plan is to take Napoleon and his “Imperial Guard” army by sea to conquer Sardinia, Sicily, Naples and the Papal states. From Italy he can then cross into Austria. This should help the economy and also hopefully gives Austria a chance to build up sufficient forces to stop it being a walk over. The defence of France shall be left to my able Marshall’s.
Bernadotte just recently returned form Hannover garrisons Cleves along with a unit of 6Ib cannon and 2 units of Fusiliers.
Napoleon heads for Toulon, his reinforced army now numbers 2 units of Chevau-Legers Lancers, 2 Chasseurs a Cheval, 2 12Iber Artillery, 1 Old Guard, 1 Grenadier, 3 Fusiliers and 2 Voltiguers. The Spy Charles-Louis Schulmeister joins him to protect against sabotage and assignations.
Ney heads for Paris, Murat remains in Strasbourg and Davout heads for Brussels. Each has 1 canon and 1 Fusilier.
Some Militia begin training in various cities and National Guard and Cavalry units in France move towards Paris to form a defence army in case of invasion.
Massena in Italy withdraws towards Torino and reinforcements.
The main French Fleet under Admiral Villeneurve withdraws to the straits of Gibraltar where they hope to link up with the Spanish in case of British aggression in the area.
The Frigates Fendant and Mutine sail from the Med Sea to reinforce them while the Corvette Heros remains in the area to escort the Emperor on his invasion.
The 2 Gentlemen both head for Orleans to aid in research – Both have 3 stars and a trait giving +1 to civil research
