After a nasty experience with Empire on Steam (many people have experienced a Steam bug that tries to redownload the entire 16 gig game from scratch when patching), does anyone know whether CA plan to use Steam again with Shogun 2?

It might be a blessing for CA when it comes to rolling out patches and DLC, but it's a pain for consumers, especially since the 'new' Steam and all the bugs a non-mature platform brings. Note I'm not blaming CA for any problems other than going with Steam, but Valve.

Yes, how else do you think they are going to get that DLC to you, and compulsory patches?

I recently had to reinstall my M2TW from disc, google, download, unpack and install a correct EU patch 1.02, google, download, unpack and install a correct EU patch 1.03, reinstall M2TW - Kingdoms - Americas Campaign from disc, reinstall M2TW - Kingdoms - Britannia Campaign from disc, reinstall M2TW - Kingdoms - Crusades Campaign from disc, reinstall M2TW - Kingdoms - Teutonic Campaign from disc and google, download, unpack and install a correct EU patch 1.05.

I was this close to buying M2TW and Kingdoms from Steam.

When i played rome total war i diddnt even have the internet and still loved it.Games dont need dlc units,all the units should be there when you buy the game.And as for patches steam gives the developers of games an excuse to get lazy and take shortcuts and say ahh sure we can send them a patch later and they will be gratefull.Although alot of people do enjoy steam and im not having a rant at steam just giving a view

Darren the developers do not cut corners because they are lazy, it's because they have strict budgets and time limits to complete the game which SEGA (and natrually any game publisher) would impose on them.

As for Steam, I think it is a vastly improved multiplayer platform opposed to Game Spy and for most it works great. I would not want to see CA leave Steam anytime soon, it's done good to the series and especially the multiplayer attention. And remember the reason ETW and NTW didn't have a proper lobby was because they did not have the time and resources to add one (because if SEGA) it is not because Steam did not allow them to have one.
